Family owned and operated farm using organic growing practices
Hawaiian Butterfly Gardens (HBG) is a conservation, education and research center that specializes in the environmental education of pollinators within the local ecosystem. HBG’s mission is to provide education and conservation advocacy to protect pollinators and at-risk species and their habitats. HBG’s programs will strengthen Kauai’s environment and food security, support neighboring farms, and reach local schools, residents and visitors.
HBG began as a small scale orchard farm in 2018, which is still in production and continues to sell produce and farm fresh eggs to our visitors. As we began enhancing farm production, we realized the importance of strong plentiful pollinators, and realized that the bees along with many others pollinators such as our moths and butterflies don’t get the credit they deserve, and that many people are very under informed on their ecological function.
HBG hosts school field trips in order to nourish environmental education and conservation practices in our youth. HBG is also present in the local school systems with our live butterfly kits, so that children can experience the phases of metamorphosis and learn of the importance pollinators in our ecosystem.
HBG hosts daily, eco-friendly tours to both locals and visitors. Each tour is kept to a low amount of people at a time in order to make for a intimate and important experience. Our tours don’t only provide an experience, but they also awake the conservationalist, the scientist, and the philanthropist in us all.
HBG as a nonprofit sector, where we specialize on habitat building and conservation of Hawaii’s two endemic butterflies. Community science and other educational resources are also available through this organization. Please visit Hawaiibutterflygarden.org to learn more and see how you can further your support.
